BELGRADE– The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office closed I-90 W between the Airport exit and Belgrade exit “while Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Highway Patrol investigate a serious-injury crash” on Wednesday.

MTN’s Cody Boyer has been at the scene and confirmed with MHP that a man on the roadway was struck by a semi truck around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Neither MHP or the Sheriff’s Office has yet officially confirmed a fatality, but information on MHP’s incident map indicates a fatal accident.

Sgt. Daniel Amundson, Montana Highway Patrol, did speak with KBZK.

Amundson says that they did have a man in the roadway.

They were not sure if he was walking across or what the circumstances were but he did confirm that a tractor trailer hit him.

“We have a serious injury-accident,” Amundson says. “It was a motor vehicle versus pedestrian.”

Sgt. Amundson says that forced the entire westbound lane of I-90 near Exit 299 to be re-routed.

“We shut down the road while we were able to do serious medical treatment,” Amundson says. “We got the evening rush hour coming on at the four to five o’clock hour here in the Bozeman-Belgrade area. We need to investigate the crash. We have a number of investigators out here.”

The Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that the portion of I-90 will be closed for a few hours Wednesday evening and drivers should plan alternate routes.
