AUGUSTA- Deputies with the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office say flood waters have a damaged a bridge on Montana 21 just east of Augusta.

The bridge is about a mile down from a bridge that was washed out and repaired in the floods of 2018.

Deputies say they cautioned residents of about a half dozen homes in the area to evacuate over concerns damage to the road could prevent residents from leaving. At least one resident told MTN that they are actively pumping water out of their basement.

As of noon on Monday, the floodwaters appear to be holding steady.

Highway 287 remains closed at Augusta south to Bowman’s Corner.

With both Highway 287 and Montana 21 closed the best way to reach Augusta is through Choteau to the north.

Other roads closed in the area include:

-Flat Creek Road from Hwy 287.
-Hwy 434/435 closed from Hwy 200 to Augusta.
-Sun Canyon Road at Augusta.
-Benchmark Road at Augusta.

Lewis and Clark County Emergency Management is reminding to not drive on flooded roadways and to stay out of flood waters because of possible contaminants.

Sand and sandbags are have been made available at the Augusta Fire station.
