LIBBY – Law enforcement continues to investigate the death of a toddler and his parents after a routine traffic stop turned deadly.
Multiple agencies had searched for two-year-old Aiden Salcido, since last Wednesday after his parents — Hannah Janiak and Daniel Salcido — died in a murder-suicide after a routine traffic stop in Kalispell.
Autopsy may answer questions about missing 2 year old’s death
Janiak and Salcido were pulled over in Kalispell after an officer noticed a broken tail light. When the officer asked for identification, they both provided false ID and took off.
After the car was stopped by Kalispell Police, both Janiak and Salcido were found dead in their vehicle.
Lincoln County Sheriff Darren Short says earlier that week a witness saw Janiak and Salcido near West Fisher Creek.
David Thompson Search and Rescue dogs were brought in to search the campsite and shortly after, rescue teams found the body of that is believed to be that of Aiden Salcido.
Sheriff Short told MTN News that while the identification hasn’t been confirmed, the autopsy was performed Monday in Missoula and he’s sure the body is Salcido’s.
“Once we get the cause and manner of death and all of the reports are completed. My detective is working on his reports right now, putting together all the photographs and the crime scene documentation that was from all the agencies involved,” Sheriff Short said.
“Once that’s done then we’ll probably meet with the county attorney and then make sure our investigation is complete,” he continued.
Sheriff Short told MTN News that the FBI is involved in the case since Salcido and Janiak fled Oregon and crossed state borders into Montana.
