HELENA — The primary application deadline has passed, and 25 people have applied to become the next superintendent of Helena Public Schools.

School board chair Luke Muszkiewicz said the district’s search consultants – the firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates – are screening the candidates now. They will recommend a group of semi-finalists later this month.

Muskiewicz said, once the board approves the list of semi-finalists, they will release their names and schedule initial interviews with them. The board will then choose its finalists.

“We will interview each finalist a second time, in addition to providing opportunities for our students, families, staff, and community members to engage with the finalists,” said Muszkiewicz.

The current superintendent, Tyler Ream, is stepping down in June, after three years in the position.

“We remain thankful for Dr. Ream's visionary leadership and unparalleled dedication, in addition to his assistance with all aspects of the process,” Muszkiewicz said.
