A 13-year-old boy who went missing while recreating on Clarks Fork River has been found dead, officials told MTN News on Thursday.
Officials later identified the 13-year-old boy as Ephraim Dayley.
In an update shared with MTN, officials say Dayley had been inner-tubing with his sister, and that he died trying to rescue her.
"She had fallen off the tube or was attempting to get off, kind of unclear, but at some point she did get off the tube, was struggling to get back on where he tried to save her, and he managed to do that, but she was not able to get him. She made it to shore and he did not," Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillan said.
Search and rescue crews were searching the Clarks Fork River just south of Fromberg Wednesday night.
McQuillen previously told MTN that witnesses saw the boy go underwater in the river, which does have some dangerous holes even when the river is not running high.
Dive crews had searched part of the river while an emergency drone and the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office helicopter were also called out for the search.
