BILLINGS- A 17-year-old boy was charged Monday with felony deliberate homicide in Yellowstone County in the shooting death of a 17-year-old girl on Dec. 6.

In court documents, prosecutors say at 5 a.m., Billings police officers were dispatched to 834 Wyoming Ave. to the report of a shooting.

Officers said when they arrived at the house, the 17-year-old boy asked to be placed in handcuffs and told officers several times, "I killed her."

Police say three adults and two juveniles were at the home.

Documents also revealed that a shot was fired at a house party, where the group was drinking and hanging out.

The group was "messing around" with the pistol throughout the night, according to witnesses.

The victim was found lying dead in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her head.

Police say a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol was found at the crime scene, along with a spent shell casing near the victim. There was also a backpack with multiple pistol magazines found in a garage near the home.

At one point during the night, the defendant pointed the pistol at the victim. While the pistol was pointed at her, a witness told police she was heard jokingly telling the defendant that "he wouldn’t shoot."

Witnesses then heard a gunshot and saw the girl collapse to the floor.

Police also say the gun was stolen.

The 17-year-old faces a penalty of life in prison if convicted. He is set to appear in Yellowstone County District Court Tuesday afternoon.
