MISSOULA - A suspect is in custody after an armed standoff with Missoula law enforcement on Thursday.

The incident occurred on the 4700 block of Sage Street, which is near Reserve and Broadway streets on Missoula's west side.

It began around 3:45 p.m. when Missoula County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence for a report of a disturbance.

The disturbance involved an assault with a weapon that is believed to have left one person injured.

The male suspect barricaded himself in the home, resulting in several hours of negotiations with authorities.

He surrendered peacefully at 7:50 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident.

His name has not yet been released.

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Missoula Rural Fire District and Missoula Emergency Services.

The suspect who had barricaded himself inside his residence following a disturbance in the 4700 block of Sage St. surrendered to Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies peacefully and without incident at 7:50 p.m. and has been taken into custody.

The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Missoula Rural Fire District and Missoula Emergency Services for being available to provide assistance and the city residents for avoiding the area.

The Special Response Team is responding to the scene to aid in negotiations.

A person remains barricaded inside the home. It is unclear at this time if there is anyone else in the home.

People are being asked to avoid the area.

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office asks residents to avoid the 4700 block Sage Street in Missoula as they negotiate with a male suspect who has barricaded himself inside the home.

In a social media post, the Missoula County Sheriff says deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at approximately 3:45 p.m.

The disturbance also involved an assault with a weapon in which one individual is believed to have sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injury.

Deputies are currently on-scene and negotiating with a male suspect who has barricaded himself inside the home.
