UPDATE: Man who fled law enforcement in Gallatin Canyon still at large

A man who fled from law enforcement during a traffic stop in the Gallatin Canyon on Friday afternoon remains at large, according to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) have been searching in the Karst Stage Loop area and throughout Big Sky after the suspect fled around 4 p.m. Friday, the Sheriff's Office said on social media.

The man is no longer believed to be in the area based on the investigation thus far and information gathered from the public. Law enforcement will remain in the area to continue the investigation and follow up on leads.

The Sheriff's Office asks everyone in the area to remain vigilant, keep property and vehicles locked, do not pick up hitchhikers, and call 911 if you see anything suspicious.

The man is described as caucasian, approximately six feet tall, with reddish facial hair and a slight to medium build. He was last seen wearing tan pants and a tan shirt.

The case is being worked jointly by the Sheriff's Office and FWP. Anyone with information is asked to call 406-582-2100.

Authorities are searching the Highway 191 canyon for a man who fled law enforcement following an attempted traffic stop Friday afternoon.

According to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, the man is suspected of driving a stolen vehicle when Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officers tried to pull him over for reckless driving around 4 p.m. Friday.

Sheriff's deputies and wildlife officers searched the area of the canyon throughout the night, and they believe it's possible someone gave the man a ride.

The man was last seen in the Karst Stage Loop area. He is white, approximately 6 feet tall, with reddish facial hair and a slight to medium build.

Authorities have no other information about his motive or history. They found the stolen vehicle with keys inside.
