The Manhattan man accused of hitting and killing a 76-year-old man while he was out for a walk — and then leaving the scene and making up a story to cover it up — has learned his fate Wednesday.
Michael Moreno was sentenced to 30 years in prison, having pleaded guilty in June to vehicular homicide in the death of longtime Manhattan farmer Truman Emmelkamp.
District Court Judge John Brown handed down the sentence.
Six years of Moreno's sentence will be suspended, and he was sentenced to an additional ten years for leaving the scene of a serious injury or death. Both sentences are to be served concurrently.
It all happened in October 2019 on Stagecoach Trail Road -- with investigators saying Moreno and his passenger, Daniel Sifuentes, were driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol when they hit Emmelkamp -- then told police they had been victims of a carjacking at gunpoint.
Sifuentes was already sentenced to seven years in prison for his part in the crime.
