Every year, 1.5 million animals are euthanized across the United States, according to the American Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

Leetta’s Rez Dog Rescue Home owner Leetta Gobert-Ankney is doing everything she can to reduce that number. When a dog is in danger or needs help, the community of Cut Bank knows that Leetta’s dog shelter is the place to go to.

“Anybody’s animals are hurt, or lost, or they can’t find them, somebody drops them off, everyone always call Leetta,” said Holly Keller, a volunteer at the dog rescue.

Leetta has sympathy for the abused animals that come into her shelter, "you see so much of it, it’s heartbreaking." But abuse isn’t the only reason Leetta does this.

“The rescue saved my life,” Leetta said. “Doing rescue, I guess I had to look at someone worse off than me, and they come to me and they are sick and have been abused.”

Despite all the pain Leetta sees, she still finds joy in what she does.
