HELENA — A man has died after jumping from the Prospect Avenue overpass on I-15.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 9:10 a.m. on Thursday. Helena Police (HPD), Montana Highway Patrol and the Helena Fire Department all responded to the scene.

After the male jumped off the overpass, HPD believes he was struck by a vehicle.

Early investigations by HPD appear to indicate the man jumped from the overpass with the intent to kill himself.

Southbound traffic was blocked for a time at the overpass, with traffic diverted through town. All lanes of travel have reopened.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff and Coroner Leo Dutton has confirmed the man has been pronounced dead, and is currently conducting their investigation and alerting the family.

Officers are currently seeking more information about the vehicle that struck the male after he jumped. At this time they have no information on the make, model or even color of the vehicle.

Anyone who witnessed the event and can provide more information about the vehicle is encouraged to contact HPD.
