MOLT – Cooperative weather, lower temperatures, and high humidity kept fire growth minimal at the Medicine Man fire on Friday night, according to the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office.
Most of the fire in grassy areas was contained and extinguished.
Firefighting efforts are now focused on the deep and steep canyons covered with heavy fuels, which makes accessibility difficult. Hand crews make up the majority of this effort.
The storm system that moved through Friday afternoon brought high winds that advanced the fire, pushing it west into multiple rugged canyons.
Bulldozers were used Friday afternoon to establish fire lines in those areas.
The fire is estimated at over 450 acres and crews are still holding lines with 55 percent containment.
