The Downtown Great Falls Association will host safe trick-or-treating on Saturday, October 31, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The annual event usually runs for just two hours; the event page says that the additional time will allow families to come downtown, safely trick-or-treat, and be able to socially distance as required.

Organizers said: "The safety of our community is the number one concern, please be respectful of fellow trick-or-treater's space, as well as the participating businesses request for the use of masks when entering the business."

How many of this year's costumes will be COVID-inspired remains to be seen - with so many people wearing masks already, will some people incorporate that into their costumes?

And as the holiday approaches, the Spirit Halloween store is once again preparing to open in Great Falls. This year, it is being set up in the building that used to be Shopko along the Northwest Bypass.

Signs went up last week on the building, and the website says the store will open on Thursday, September 24 - which is a few weeks later than usual.

In years past, Spirit has leased space along 10th Avenue South, and before that, in the plaza adjoining the Albertsons grocery store on the northwest side of town.

We will update you if we receive word of other Halloween events.

The Halloween & Costume Assocation (did you know there was one?) has created a website to highlight best practices for safety on Halloween and provide tips and ideas for safe Halloween events.

The site states: "A blue moon, daylight savings time and Saturday celebrations — but with the unprecedented events of this year, Halloween 2020 will truly be one to remember. This year, almost everything in our world has changed … but not our love for the fun, fright, and delight of Halloween. So we’re unleashing our Halloween inspiration — to celebrate the season in safe, spooky, unexpected ways."
