Great Falls College-MSU is marking "National Cybersecurity Awareness Month" by performing free "cyber check" this week.

The college said in a press release that people can bring their electronic devices to the Atrium at the college (2100 16th Avenue South) between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. through Thursday, October 31st, and students and faculty in the Computer Technology department will conduct security checks to see if the devices are secure and make recommendations on how to increase security.

"We hope that by bringing awareness to the community through these checks, we can educate people to make better choices when sharing personal information online," said Chris Mee, Computer Technology Faculty Chair.

Mee says that many people may not realize what makes them a target for scammers. For instance, online shopping should never be done over public Wi-Fi. Anyone can gain access to public Wi-Fi and personal or credit card information could be exposed.
