For some people, the outdoors offers relaxation. but for others, they provide refuge.

For Misty Brown and her family, the outdoors are the only place they have to call home right now.

“Right now we're homeless and I have nowhere else to work,” Brown said.

During the past month, Brown, her husband, and three dogs have been living in their pickup truck, parked alongside the Missouri River.

The couple were living in an elderly woman’s home, and when the owner passed away recently, her family took ownership of the house.

Brown said she and her family were forced out of their house.

Her husband has been out of work for some time and she is trying to launch a craft business.

With no full-time work and nowhere to take shelter, they retreated to the river.

But they haven’t stopped working toward finding a permanent home.

Each day Misty works on her pieces by the river, hoping she can craft a better life.

“There's not much we can do right now because we don't have the credit to get a mortgage,” Brown said.

Her business, D+M designs, is debuting at the Base Exchange at Malmstrom Air Force Base on Monday. You can see her mason jar lanterns, jewelry, and other hand-crafted items on base, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you're interested in helping the Browns obtain housing, you can help them by donating via their Facebook fundraiser page which states:

Me and my veteran husband and 3 dogs are homeless. I am having medical problems with my legs because I can't put them up at night on a bed. The dogs are getting anxious not having a home and my husband has heart problems and being homeless is not helping his heart. We found a home for only 30000 but we need help to get it. It would be greatly appreciated if any body could help.
