HELENA — Another candidate is joining the race for an open position on the Lewis and Clark County Commission.
Brady Christensen, of Helena, filed his paperwork Friday morning at the Lewis and Clark County Elections Office. He was accompanied by his family.
Christensen said this is his first entry into politics.
“This is an amazing place to live and raise a family,” he said. “What better way to give back than to get involved?”
He is seeking the commission seat representing District 2, which includes parts of central Helena and the Helena Valley, along with the Augusta area. Incumbent Susan Good Geise is not running for a second term.
Christensen works for the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, as a manager with the Materials Management Program. The program oversees recycling programs, including disposal and recycling of motor vehicles.
Prior to joining DEQ, Christensen worked as a utility subcontractor. He said his combination of experience in the public and private sectors makes him a good candidate for the commission.
If elected, Christensen said he wants to continue the work the current commissioners have done on mental health, as well as supporting infrastructure improvements and ensuring county government works efficiently.
“I’m a hard worker; I’m a good listener,” he said. “I can’t wait to get out, introduce myself to the people of Lewis and Clark County, find out what’s important to you and just have those conversations.”
Christensen is the third candidate to file for this position, after Tom Rolfe and Tyrel Suzor-Hoy. This year, for the first time, all county commission candidates are filing for a single nonpartisan primary. Lewis and Clark County voters approved a measure last year to elect county officials without party labels.
The filing deadline for all county offices is 5 p.m. on Monday, March 9.
