HELENA — The city of Helena is inviting local nonprofits to apply for grants to help support programs and activities that serve the community.
City leaders have set aside $30,000 for the 2020 fiscal year for a partnership program with IRS-registered incorporated nonprofits. They will make funds available in grants of $2,000 to $6,000.
“The city is always looking for grant opportunities from the federal and state levels, and so we know the challenge it can be to access funds,” said city public information officer Rebecca Connors. “Here we have community funds that can go back and reinvest into our community to be able to help support other nonprofits and the services that they provide.”
The city is looking for proposals in the areas of animal control and management, arts and culture, economic development and community health and workforce development for special populations. Connors said new and existing services are eligible.
Connors said this isn’t the first time the city has offered this type of funding to nonprofits, but they want to bring more attention to the program.
“What is new is that we’re really trying to publicize it, to make sure everybody within the Helena community has the opportunity to apply for funds,” she said.
The city will hold a pre-proposal conference at 8:30 a.m., Oct. 31, in the City-County Building. Grant administrators will be on hand to give organizations more information and answer questions about the program.
Proposals must be delivered in person to Nicole Woody at the City-County Building, and the deadline is Dec. 6 at 11 a.m.
The money for this grant program comes from funding set aside for discretionary spending during the city budget process.
