Helena hardware store suggests advance prep for winter weather

In preparation for the winter weather expected later this week, Rock Hand Hardware explained to MTN about how to be better prepared on Monday.

Steve Edwards, Floor Manager at Rock Hand Ace Hardware said people are buying a lot of shovels as winter approaches.

Edwards also recommends buying de-icer for your driveway, snow scrapers, and rock salt for slick driveways.

As many Montanans already know they need to get those items, Edwards says there’s something else that many people may not remember to prepare for - their roofs.

As many icicles hanging down can be a beautiful sight, they can also cause major damage.

Edwards recommends purchasing a roof and gutter de-icing kit to prevent what’s known as “ice dams,” from forming in your gutter.

“Last couple years, a lot of people were affected by ice damns--myself included. Remember the old adage, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" so it's definitely time to get up there on the roof or have somebody get up on the roof and take care of that. They might look pretty, but they're causing serious damage. We are definitely loaded on your staples; ice melt, ice scrappers, ice shovels...so we are ready...are you?” stated Edwards.

As a friendly reminder, residents are required to shovel their sidewalks outside of their homes, so Rock Hand Hardware says acquiring a good snow shovel, would be helpful for the many inches expected this winter.
