HELENA — This year marks lucky number 13 for the partnership between Helena Food Share, Mosaic Architecture and Blackfoot River Brewing Company to brew for the Mardi Gras Red Ale.

“It’s a really great event that helps us provide food for people in our community who need it,” Helena Food Share Executive Director Bruce Day said. “It really is about community, and a nice way to acknowledge our partnerships.”

All the proceeds from the special brew go toward eliminating hunger in the greater Helena area.

1 in 7 residents of Helena struggles with hunger. 1 in 5 Helena children don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

If you can’t make it out to Blackfoot Tuesday you’ll have another chance to help the food share next Wednesday.

March 4 is Doorsteps to Kids Packs drive. If you live in the Helena city limits, place kid-friendly food on your doorstep and volunteers will pick it up.

The most needed items for the drive are: granola bars, juice, fruit cups, oatmeal and peanut butter.

“We hear so many stories from teachers, counselors and nurses in the schools about how important kids packs are,” said Day. “Some kids don’t know where their next meal is coming from on the weekend, and not always sure they’re going to have food. This food helps them show up on Monday for school ready to learn.”
