HELENA — Lewis and Clark Public Health has expanded and extended an order that closes some businesses over coronavirus concerns.

According to the Thursday order, Health Officer Drenda Niemann added theaters, churches and other faith-based gatherings to the order. The order now runs through March 31st.

It was originally set to expire next Monday.

Bars, breweries, distilleries, casinos, restaurants, fitness centers, athletic centers, gyms, and workout studios are still closed under the original order. Exemptions remain in place for food establishments that offer carry-out, delivery and pick-up.

In a news release Niemann said the decision to extend the order was made because of the growing number of cases and because it is "inevitable" that a case of COVID-19 will be confirmed in Lewis and Clark Co.

She also cited Centers for Disease Control recommendations limiting gatherings to 10 or fewer people.

Broadwater County is under a similar order. Currently Jefferson County has strongly recommended businesses close to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, however closure has not been mandated at this time.
