HELENA — Firefighters have been able to contain around 10 percent of the perimeter of the Horsefly fire.

The fire continues to burn in the dense wooded area, but has seen no significant growth since Thursday.

Ground crews continued to improve lines around the fire and were able to finish a dozer line above Flesher Acres.

At the public information meeting at the Canyon Creek fire station on Duffy Lane, it was announced that evacuations were being lifted, as of 8:00 p.m. Friday.

The Almas Type 2 incident management team is leaving on Monday, and turning things over to the Type 3 team.

Officials say give how the conditions of the forest is in the area, people should expect this fire to continue to burn in its perimeter for a long time.

“In consultation with the Northern Rockies Incident Management Team and Incident Commander Mike Almas, volunteer fire Chief Sam Stigman and cooperating agencies, we have made the decision to lift these evacuations,” said Sheriff Leo Dutton. “However, the fire is still burning. While it is in a condition to allow you to return home, if the situation changes, re-evacuations or more evacuations could occur. We ask people to stay vigilant and safe and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.”
