It’s a Belgrade cafe-turned-drive thru-turned drive-in movie theater and it’s preparing to bring in crowds for the first time on the Fourth of July.

Bubby’s Burger Barn in Belgrade has been a staple off of Jackrabbit Lane for a while but working alongside Town Pump, the husband and wife duo that run the barn are starting a big tradition.

Starting tomorrow night, Saturday, July 4, Rhonda and Brant Gilbert will showing movies on around 60 acres of land behind the barn, which is owned by Town Pump.

The Independence Day festivities will also include a petting zoo and live music with the local classic rock band, “the Disruptors.”

Ground-only fireworks are allowed and a new ice cream booth is also ready to go, which will remain serving customers for the rest of the summer.

As for the movie, the cast and creators of the locally filmed movie, Hocked, will present the movie for adults.

"We're getting an opportunity to be a part of a really innovative, kind of old school but new theatre idea, you know?" says K Mida, one of members of the band. "Kind of bringing it back."

"We’re making the best of an odd situation," says Steve Drake, who created, directed and co-starred in Hocked.

“We’re outside. We’re in the fresh air," says Rhonda Gilbert. "We’ve got hot, fresh food, milkshakes and have a good time and just get out of your house and enjoy yourself. We are trying to take care of the community as the community has taken care of us.”

Now the Gilberts do say this first movie is rated-R but there are other activities for kids leading up to the showing around 9 pm.

Gates open at 4 o’clock.
