BUTTE - Butte's Council of Commissioners is expected to decide at its meeting next week if it will approve the signing of the consent decree that outlines the five-year cleanup plan of mine waste in Butte.

This step must be completed before the plan can move to the state court for final approval, and then cleanup work can be done in Butte. Once completed, this will remove Butte’s status as a superfund site.

“So we've got a lot of work ahead of us, but we got to get this consent decree done and stop talking about making Butte better and start doing the job and getting work done to make Butte better,” said Butte Superfund Coordinator Jon Sesso.

The commissioner’s meeting is this Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.
