For many, winter break is a relaxing time for kids to spend time with their families during the holidays. But there are students who rely on school meals who struggle this time of the year.
The Gallatin Valley Food Bank says there are a number of options for kids to get adequate nutrition during the holidays.
For starters, kids and families are welcome to stop by the Food Bank during regular hours to stock up on healthy foods.
There are also a number of emergency food stations around the Bozeman and Belgrade area, where families can pick up emergency food boxes.
Kids signed up for the Human Resource Development Council’s Healthy Kids Pack program were also given larger portions of food during the holiday break.
“You know it’s just a great resource for families, whether it’s that buffer to get them through the week and stretch their food dollar,” said Lyra Leigh-Nedbor, childhood nutrition programs coordinator at the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.
“Or it’s a kiddo that’s staying at home by themselves over the weekend when their parents are at work. Folks have been really responsive and really thankful to have that resource.”
The Gallatin Valley Food Bank says another great option for families this winter break is the Fork and Spoon, which is open on Christmas Eve but closed on Christmas Day.
