The Helena School District began offering their grab & go food options on Wednesday.

Helena Public Schools is under a state ordered two-week closure of all schools in response to the coronavirus.

Students can still stop by a location to pick up their breakfast and lunch.

“We want to make sure that the children have the opportunity to have a full breakfast and lunch every day during the closure of the schools,” says Barb Avard, the Helena School District Food Service Manager.

Each student will be able to grab about two bags. The schools district says they will feed about 350 students each day, but according to the employees, if they need to make more, they will.

“We want everybody to know that we’re here to help a community out in this time of need,” says Avard.

Here is the schedule (pictured above). There will be two teams heading to different elementary schools.

This is the schedule Monday-Friday.

March 27, 2020 will be the last day for free meals.

According to the school district, anyone between the age of 1 and 18 can have a meal.

The Salvation Army is also calling for volunteers to help with weekend meal distribution for kids and families.

The meals will be distributed on Fridays while schools are closed.

The Salvation Army estimates they will need around 75 volunteers to deliver food to 1,200 Helena-area students.
