HELENA — The Helena School District has officially taken possession of its three newest elementary schools.

Superintendent Tyler Ream said contractors handed over the keys this week for the new Central, Bryant and Jim Darcy school buildings. It’s the culmination of more than a year of construction.

Ream said teachers will be able to start getting a look at their classrooms next week.

District voters approved a $63 million bond issue in 2017 to pay for the new elementary schools. It’s the first time in decades that Helena Public Schools built a new school.

The new Central, Bryant and Jim Darcy are set to welcome students for the first time on Aug. 28. The district will hold ribbon-cutting ceremonies at each school on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 23, and they will host open houses for the public on Saturday, Aug. 24.
