Maintaining mental health during COVID-19 pandemic

Even in isolation, it's recommended to socialize.

Lewis and Clark Public Health is reminding everyone to take care of your mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While social distancing and isolation can be good to stop the spreading of the virus, Public Health states that it may be hard for the mental state.

Public Health officials recommend three ways to maintain good mental health.

Serving as a volunteer can help make your body and mind stay sharp.

You can manage stress and prevent COVID-19 by taking breaks away from the television, and taking walks.

It's also recommended to connect with others using technology such as Facetime.

“And, in fact, doing those videos, where we actually see another person’s face is better for us and it also makes us feel a little bit more comforted. Because in situations that are difficult like this, people tend to want to connect with other people. It feels protective to us, it makes us feel comforted being able to connect with other folks,” says Jess Hegstrom, the Suicide Prevention Coordinator for Lewis & Clark Public Health.

The Awareness Network announced that they will reimburse people in the Helena-area for a one-month subscription of apps recommended by the Anxiety and Depression association of America.
