HELENA — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is looking at removing the traffic signal at the intersection of Sanders Street and 11th Avenue next to where the Capital Hill Mall used to stand.

The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow of the 11th avenue corridor, with work being completed in three phases.

In June, MDT plans to switch the signal to a flashing red light on Sanders Street and a flashing yellow on 11th Ave., which will continue for 90 days. After that the signal heads will be covered and a stop sign will be placed on Sanders Street.

Removal of the light is tentatively scheduled for 2021.

MDT is currently accepting public comment on the proposed change.

The public can submit their feedback online or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Great Falls office at PO Box 1359, Great Falls, MT 59403-1359. Please note that comments are for project CN 9361000.

The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Administrator Jim Wingerter at (406) 454-5887 or Project Design Engineer Michael S. Grover at (406) 444 4188 for additional information.
