HELENA — The American Red Cross is in critical need for blood donations.

I met with Merrill Taylor, Robotics Coordinator at St. Peter's Health, as she sat down and donated blood.

She tells MTN that she sees the importance of donating blood almost every day.

“Dealing with both sides, you really see the need of the community. If there is a trauma or a person who is in need of blood, you can need blood from a newborn to an elderly person. So, it’s a need for the entire community,” says Taylor.

According to the Laboratory Operations Manager, St. Peter's Health uses about 120 units of blood products every month.

The Red Cross says that every two seconds, someone will need blood and that one donation can save up to three lives.

Taylor tells MTN her donations of blood have even had the ability to help someone at the hospital where she works.

“Two donations ago, my blood actually stayed at St. Peter’s. I thought that was really cool that someone here, potentially, were helped by my donation,” says Taylor.

If you need an excuse to donate, the American Red Cross is giving away a trip to this year's Super Bowl. The deadline is January 19th, 2020.

Helena does have a blood donation center on North Montana Avenue.
