For a group of athletes who spend most of their time flying down hills, running up hills seems a bit strange. But for the MSU ski team, that is just one way they’ve found to train for the upcoming season, before the snow covers the slopes.

Nordic Team Head Coach Matthew Johnson talked live with Montana This Morning’s Chet Layman about the challenges of no snow training. Johnson says team members are using roller skis or just plain running shoes to get in to pre-season shape while they wait for the snow in the mountains.

On Saturday you can meet the team and participate in some of its training at the same time. The MSU Ski team will hold its Bobcat hill climb Saturday at the Sourdough trail.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m., is free and bids can be picked up that morning. Johnson says the fan base in Bozeman is great fort the team, but this is one of the few chances fans have to actually meet the athletes since most of their time during the season is spent on the slopes.
