The Great Northern Bar and Grill is getting ready for a party like no other on Saturday, a celebration of 100 years in service in downtown Whitefish.

Originally located on 2nd street the bar changed locations to it’s current location on Central Avenue in the 1950’s.

Co-Owner Doug Rommereim started working at the bar in 1983 and has co-owned since 1987. Rommereim considers the Great Northern, a working man’s bar

“I mean a lot of them are carpentry, painters, plumbers. But we got our bank presidents, clerical workers, all walks of life,” said Rommereim.

Patron David Kellogg has been taking a seat at the bar almost daily for the past 44 years. Kellogg says it’s the people that keep him coming back.

“Love coming down here in the afternoon, BS for an hour and a half and then go back home because the wife won’t listen to what I’m saying," said Kellogg.

Lester Johnson has been frequenting the bar for more than 4 decades. Johnson likes the simple pleasures the bar has to offer.

“Beer, people. Get away from work and all that stuff,” said Johnson

The celebration on Saturday will feature all day drink specials and live music starting at 6 p.m.
