Missoula recently ranked second in the nation for producing the most Peace Corps volunteers.
Missoula has 13.7 volunteers for every 100,000 residents, according to a Peace Corps reports. Meanwhile, the state of Montana also ranked number three for most volunteers by state.
Volunteers say this isn't the first time we've ranked this high.
The University of Montana has its own recruiting office and campus representative Kevin Deitle has been to three countries with the Peace Corps.
"In the past, the university's even been ranked higher, but this is a positive change for the work that we do here,” Deitle said. “It speaks more to me to the population of the people that are in the town and the character of the community around it."
"I think it's popular here in Missoula because we're a community of explorers, we like to try things, we like to challenge ourselves. Not only in the landscape around us, but the landscape of the world,” said Western Montana Return Peace Corps Volunteer Association president Jim Burchfield.
