Northwestern Energy is replacing old street lights with new energy-efficient LED lights to help save money and reduce light pollution.

A total of 1,800 street lights across Missoula will receive the new lights which produce a softer color temperature.

The “soft white” is safer for drivers bicyclists and pedestrians, according to the utility.

The LED bulbs are expected to save the city approximately $79,000 in energy costs each year.

NorthWestern is planning on retrofitting a total of 43,000 street lights across Montana with the energy-efficient LED lights.
