Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula took top honors as Montana’s best regional hospital in rankings released this week by U.S. News and World Report.

The annual Best Hospitals ranking rates hospitals as “below average,” “average” or “high performing” across several categories. Providence received a “high performing” status in three procedures and conditions, including hip and knee replacement, and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

It also was nationally ranked in one specialty, that being pulmonary and lung surgery.

“While all hospitals work to become the best at providing quality care for their patients, St. Pat’s provides data-driven, evidenced-based, high-quality and compassionate, safe and reliable care to all as part of our Mission,” Joyce Dombrouski, CEO of Providence Montana, said in a statement.

This year’s rankings evaluated nearly every community hospital in the country across an array of adult specialties, procedures and conditions, ranging from cancer to cardiology.

Roughly 165 hospitals out of more than 4,500 received a nationally ranking in at least one specialty, while 569 were ranked as a “best regional hospital” in a state or metro area based upon their performance.

The rankings evaluated 65 Montana hospitals.
