An annual tradition to kick off fall took over Lewistown on Saturday, as the the 30th annual Chokecherry Festival brought Montanans from across the state.
The day kicked off with a pancake breakfast featuring unlimited supplies of world-famous chokecherry syrup.
There’s also a fun run and walk, a chokecherry culinary contest, games, animals, and of course a chokecherry pit-spitting contest.
All day, Main Street is packed with vendors selling arts, crafts, and food, and there is also live entertainment.
From the festival website : "The Chokecherry, a small, maroon-colored fruit with a puckery taste grows wild in Montana. The plants begin to bloom in June and the fruit ripens in August. The reddish fruits are used in making syrups, jams, jellies, wines and many other culinary treats."
