MISSOULA — You can start getting your skis and snowboards ready! Montana Snowbowl in Missoula has almost fully opened for the season.

Over the past 10½ months, industries across the nation have had to rethink their approach to business. While the ski industry has had to do the same, they’re doing quite well in a time when people are looking to get outside.

“This is a pretty safe activity where you’re outside and pretty spread out and it’s something you can do and people aren’t traveling,” commented Montana Snowbowl owner Ronnie Morris. “So, it’s been good for pass sales.”

While Morris, says pass sales are up this winter, Mother Nature hasn’t been kind.

“It’s not a great snow year but the snow we have had is good. It’s kind of a double whammy because we have all this snowmaking, but the temperatures have to get below a certain temp before we even run that and it’s not even cold enough at night.” Morris explained.

Regardless of the snowfall, Snowbowl -- like other mountains in the area -- has had to get creative with their COVID-19 services. They’ll begin online ordering for food in the near future and have outdoor, heated seating available.

Morris also wanted to emphasize how important it is to follow protocols on the mountain and respect the people enforcing them.

“They’re putting themselves to offer a service to the people and I think what weighs on them the most is when they have to keep after people to put their mask on and to social distance,” Morris said. “We don’t like wearing them, you don’t like wearing them, we’ll get through this.”
