This Week in Fish and Wildlife, MTN's Chet Layman talked with FWP's Morgan Jacobsen about a couple upcoming Hunter Safety classes in the Gallatin Valley.

For folks in the Belgrade area there will be a class beginning on September 16th, and registration for that class begins on September 1st. If that class fills there will also be a large class in Bozeman beginning September 23rd. Registration is currently available for that class. You can register on-line at fwp.mt.gov and then look for Hunter Education. FWP has provied the following information about both the Bozeman and Belgrade classes.

Bozeman's Fall Hunter Education class is Sept 23-28.

Once you register online, you MUST stop by the MT Fish Wildlife and Parks office on S 19th and pick up your student packet at the front desk. You may pick up your packet between August 26 and Sept 20th. Register first, then pick up your packet. This is important. Students are expected to read the manual before class begins, so pick up your packet far enough in advance to allow time for studying.

Class is Monday through Friday evenings at Chief Joseph Middle School, and Saturday field day is at Logan Range. Attendance on all nights of class and the Saturday field day is mandatory. Each student will attend the field day either 8 am-12pm or 1 pm-5 pm. Your field day session will be determined during the class.

If you decide that you can't make it to the class after registering, please log back in and cancel your registration or send an email to the contact below.

There is no fee for this course.

Students must be at least 10 years old by the first day of class to take this course. Parents of 10-11 year old students are advised that the class materials and test are designed and intended primarily for students who are twelve years of age or older. Younger students are permitted to take the class, but may find the material too difficult.

Parents of minor students should attend the first night of class, in order to receive important information about the requirements and responsibilities of the class that a child may not remember or communicate effectively.

Students under 18 years old must have a responsible adult with them on the Saturday Field day.
