HELENA — Silver Creek Management houses men who are, many times, transitioning directly from the Department of Corrections facilities back into society.

Silver Creek helps ease that transition and give their clients peer support and resources to be successful.

MTN News also found that Silver Creek is getting a little help of their own from some generous Helena businesses.

Duncan Flooring is scheduled to renovate a basement in Helena.

The project includes clearing everything out to add new carpet throughout the entire space. The folks living in this home say the project will bring more comfort for those taking part in their men’s wellness group.

“Our men's wellness group, we have it here in the front part of the house. There is a living room and a kitchen table and nowhere we can face each other in that traditional circle, and feel secure," says Jason Mcnees, a Certified Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist for the Helena Indian Alliance.

The wellness group is conducted on a bi-weekly basis with about 10 or more men from this (pictured above) or other transitional living spaces in Helena.

These men all share similar stories, from going through the justice system to now being in peer support living and transitioning back into our community. The owner of Duncan Flooring went through a similar situation when he was younger and decided to donate flooring as a way to give back.

"We both have been there, we both have been in trouble and had a run with the drugs back in our younger days and we are not trying to forget where we came from so we don't go back,” Shawn Duncan, owner of Duncan Flooring and Remodeling Inc. “I just want to show other people that are coming out of the prison system that they can succeed, they can come from that type of lifestyle and turn it around."

McNees is a Certified Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist with the Helena Indian Alliance and he too has been recovering from addiction for about seven years. He understands what many of these men go through. He continues to volunteer and conduct these groups because he says with peer support, seven out of ten people can break the cycle of addiction, compared to one out of ten who don’t have help.

"We all need that second chance to be able to prove to, not just ourselves, but to the community. We can recover and we can change our lives," Tylin Weber, he is living in recovery and is a resident within Silver Creek Management.

The flooring installation is scheduled to take place the first week of February, 2021. Carpet One provided the materials to Duncan Flooring for the project.
