Students were held in their classrooms Thursday afternoon after a suspicious man was seen on the grounds at Superior Elementary School.

Superior Schools Superintendent Scott Kinney told MTN News the incident caused concern because the individual demonstrated odd and erratic behavior.

It's unknown whether he had a weapon.

Kinney said the schools were not in an official lockdown as a result of the incident, that happened at around 3:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Teachers were asked to hold students in their classrooms for an extra five to 10 minutes before they could safely load the bus.

Kinney said law enforcement was made aware of the situation.

MTN News has reached out to Mineral County Sheriff Mike Boone for more information on the incident.
