HELENA — The Helena YWCA is hosting an outdoor event on Wednesday evening honoring the late Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“Filling Our Legacy” will happen Sep. 23, at 8:00 p.m. in Women's Park.

The free outdoor event will feature three generations of women speaking about the impact of Justice Ginsburg’s life’s work.

Speakers include Retired Montana Supreme Court Justice Pat Cotter, Montana attorneys and students from middle school through college.

“‘Filling Our Legacy’ is about picking up a baton being passed from a giant. Justice Ginsburg was a justice-seeker who paved the path for women’s rights,” said Jen Gursky, executive director of YWCA Helena. “It wasn’t that long ago that women were required to have a man co-sign her loan application, could be fired for becoming pregnant, or were legally allowed to be segregated into lower-paying jobs. We want to recognize the strides we have made in just one generation, and double down on the work that still remains for women, people of color, and LGBTQ neighbors.”
