BUTTE - With many businesses getting back to work after months of being stagnant from the coronavirus, there’s need for more workers.

“They need help, that’s what they’re telling me,” said Tabatha Hyatt, owner of Express Employment Professionals.

Jobs may be available, but many people are not ready to reenter the workforce, especially for people collecting unemployment.

“The unemployment changes have not—perhaps they’ve helped financially for some people—but they have not helped or encouraged people to get back to work,” said Hyatt.

Express Employment is hosting a job fair with more than 40 local employers who are in need of employees. Keeping local businesses supplied is a concern for economic leaders in the community.

“How do we make sure Butte not only has an active and engaged workforce, but we’re also prepared for the future workforce,” said Joe Willauer of the Butte Local Development Corp.

And busy places the like the M&M in Uptown Butte certainly need a lot of loyal, dedicated employees and the owner says it has been a challenge to try to keep the M&M stocked with good workers.

“It’s definitely tough to find somebody, it’s nearly impossible to even get people to put applications in, you know, it was until this week. I feel like that’s obviously going to change in the next few days; I think people are going to be out looking for a job,” said M&M owner Selina Pankovich.

The Express Employment Professionals job fair will be in the parking lot of the business at 700 E. Front St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
