Cold front brings cold air, widespread rain, and snow to elevations above 6000 feet

A cold front from Canada will continue to travel south throughout the day into north central and central Montana before moving into southwest portions of the state this evening bringing a big drop in temperatures and widespread rain showers.

Snow is expected in elevations above 6,000 feet. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through Friday at 9 AM for the West Glacier region as well as the Rocky Mountain Front.

Rain will move into portions of central Montana, including Great Falls and Lewistown this morning.

Rain likely will not start in Helena till late this afternoon or the evening.

Temperatures will fall throughout the morning, with much of northern and central parts of the state in the state rising into the 40s and 50s.

Helena’s high will remain in the 60s this afternoon. Temperatures will continue to remain cool through the weekend. The next chance for rain and snow will be Saturday night through Sunday.

* WHAT…Snow will impact backcountry recreation and Going to the
Sun Road in Glacier Park, including Logan Pass. Snow
accumulations up to three inches are expected above 6000 feet.

* WHERE…West Glacier Region.

* WHEN…From 9 AM Thursday to 9 AM MDT Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for reduced visibilities and wind
gusts over 40 mph at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Weather Advisory means periods of snow will cause
primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads
and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
