High pressure remains in place over the northern Rockies. Down to the south, low pressure continues to spin over the 4-corners states. This setup is known as a rex block, and a blocking pattern like this can linger for days. Usually Montana experiences dramatic changes, but what’s unusual about our weather is that it won’t change for another week. High pressure positioned how it has been will allow for cooler overnights, slightly cooler highs and less wind in the valleys. The plains will have a breeze at times and slightly warmer temperatures at night and in the afternoon. However, this will be the only real difference here across the state as everyone will have sunny skies and above average temperatures. The rex block will continue through the weekend into next week. It’s next Wednesday that the blocking pattern will finally end, allowing the first storm in a while to move back into the state. Until then, enjoy the beautiful and unusual fall weather because all good things must come to an end…
