Rex Block Responsible for Really Nice Weather

Warm, sunny days…cool, clear nights.  Beautiful fall weather continues as for a change, the weather in Montana is not changing.  The weather pattern over the western United States is called a rex block, when high pressure develops north of an area of low pressure.  This setup persists for a while, and is known as a blocking pattern in meteorology.  Montana is currently on the “good” side of the rex block, as Big Sky is sitting under the high pressure.  Low pressure to the south is producing rain and higher elevation snow in the 4-corners area.  This blocking pattern will continue for several more days, and should make for a spectacular weekend.  High pressure will begin to break down toward the middle of next week.  The final weekend of October will be very different as much colder temperatures and a chance of snow will return.

Enjoy!
