The final weekend of January will not look or feel much like January. Both days will be mostly sunny and mild, with highs in the 30s and 40s. Even warmer air will move in on Monday with highs in the 50s. Groundhog day on Tuesday will be the beginning of some bigger changes as winter returns. A Canadian cold front will bring snow and colder air across Montana by later Tuesday. Snow will accumulate up to a few inches by Wednesday morning. Temperatures behind this front will not be brutally cold, rather falling into the 10s and 20s. Another front will move into the state later Thursday with more snow. Several inches will fall into Friday. This is when arctic air will begin spilling into the state. By Friday, temperatures will be falling into the 0s and -0s. For the first weekend of February, temperatures could drop to between -20 and -40 in parts of the state. It is still a ways away, but easily the coldest air of the season is looking very likely for the first weekend of February into the second full week of the month.
Have a great weekend!
