An arctic airmass moved through the state over the weekend. While not brutally cold, temperatures were 10-20 degrees below average. At times, wind chill values approached -20 in northeast Montana. But this is Montana, and it is January. This cold airmass will reside over the state again on Tuesday. Highs will be in the 10s and 20s, with colder numbers the farther northeast you go. Skies will be partly cloudy and the wind will be fairly light. Wednesday will be slightly warmer as the arctic airmass begins to retreat. Temperatures will rebound into the 20s and 30s for most of the state, with partly cloudy skies. A little snow will fly down south near Monida Pass, over northwest Montana, and perhaps a little snow on the Rocky Mountain Front. Most of the state will be dry. Thursday will be partly to mostly cloudy with near normal temperatures in the 30s to around 40. Friday will be mostly cloudy as a weak area of low pressure moves through with some light snow showers. The best chance for snow will be over the south-central part of the the state. Some snow showers are possible Friday night into Saturday, but most accumulation will be confined to the mountains. Sunday will be a dry day with January ending on a quiet note. The beginning of February looks a little different, as snow with a shot of colder air will likely come through on Tuesday into Wednesday.
Have a great day.
