Welcome to the weekend! Winter will be making a return as there will be several shots of snow over the course of the next week and temperatures will trend downward. By next weekend, sub-zero temperatures are likely for much of Montana. So enjoy this weekend! Saturday will be your "Sun"day with mostly clear conditions. Another storm will move in through Sunday with increasing clouds and precipitation. The lower elevations will see scattered rain and snow showers, with snow increasing in the mountains. Areas of snow will be more widespread on Monday. The lower elevations could see 1-3" with as much as 6-12" into the mountains by Monday afternoon. Most of Tuesday will be dry and breezy, but another front will move through Tuesday night and Wednesday. A little light snow is possible in the lower elevations with a better chance of accumulation in the mountains. Snow showers will continue on Wednesday as colder air spills into the state. Arctic air will continue to infiltrate Montana through Friday and into the weekend. Right now there is a possibility of light snow Friday and Saturday as the coldest air arrives. But there is a good amount of confidence in extreme cold with subzero temperatures spreading through most of the state during the weekend. Some areas could be down near -20 during the overnight hours. While some modification of the airmass is likely, continued cold will occur through the end of the month and into February. Real Montana winter is here.
Have a great weekend.
