Strong wind has blown across much of Montana from Monday night through Tuesday, with some gusts topping out in the 65-80mph range. However, some of the valley locations like Helena and Bozeman saw little to no wind. It's that time of year when inversions start to form in the valley locations, limiting the wind. But for most of Montana it was a pretty windy day. Wednesday, a cold front will move through the state with decreasing wind behind the front. Skies will become partly cloudy, and highs will be a little cooler in the 50s and 60s. Thursday, the first day of October, will turn mostly cloudy again, and there could be a very isolated rain shower over central and eastern Montana. Highs will be in the 50s and 60s. Friday will turn partly cloudy with a very isolated rain shower or thunderstorm across eastern Montana. Most areas will be dry both days. The first weekend of October is looking very nice with plentiful sunshine and temperatures rising above average in the 60s and 70s with light wind. The weather will stay fairly warm and dry into next week.
Over the next few days, prescribed burns by the Forest Service will produce large smoke columns south of Helena.
