Wildfires & Wintry Weather This Holiday Weekend

A RED FLAG WARNING has been issued across most of Montana for Saturday.
A WINTER STORM WATCH has been issued for Monday for the higher elevations west of the Continental Divide.

BIG changes are in store for this weekend. After starting out with extreme fire danger and record heat, a significant rain and snow storm will hit the state on Monday. Saturday is the highest fire danger day, Sunday is a transition day with wind but cooler temperatures, and the transition is complete on Monday with widespread rain, mountain snow, and cooler temperatures. Temperatures will drop 50+ degrees over the course of the weekend. This storm on Labor Day is precisely what the fire situation needs: a cold summer day with a soaking rain. High pressure will move in on Tuesday with clearing and temperatures slowly warming through the remainder of the week.
Have a great weekend.
