Living east of the Rockies brings a lot of wind, sometimes causing damage such as shingles being ripped off roffs, tree limbs blown down, and even downed power poles. But for one Stanford family the recent powerful winds did much more damage - their home was destroyed.

At around 9pm on February 21st, Dauna and Pete Samson were awake in their Stanford home with no power. Then as they heard their home creaking they knew they had to get out.

“The west windows were just blowing like crazy. The creaking noise was horrible. Then the roof lifted and I went to get my husband and stuff was falling all over us. He [Pete] said back up, we got to get out of here, we will get out of here.”

Thankfully both Dauna and Pete were able to get out safely and wait in their car for help. The aftermath: their home of forty years gone in minutes. The wind ripped the roof clean off and dumped it a ways from the home. The Samsons say they have even seen logs from their home in their fields.

Now with help from their community the Samsons have relocated to the home of a family friend for the time being. Their daughter posted pictures of the damaged home to Facebook and the Samsons say friends and family from around town and out of state have reached out to them to offer aid.

“I could never thank how many wonderful neighbors and friends and relatives we have that are making it so much easier,” said Pete Samson about the outreach from his community.

Family and friends of the Samsons have created a GoFundMe account to help pay for cost of damaged property and moving.

The unfortunate event is not only emotional but costly to rebuild. This gofundme account is created to show our love and support for Pete & Dauna by helping financially in any way. If you feel so inclined to donate your generosity is greatly appreciated!
